Netflix: A Close Encounter With…

Developed with Special Treats Productions for Netflix during the pandemic, A Close Encounter was a virtual press content series created for a moment when traditional junkets, cast interviews and publicity formats had moved almost entirely online.

FORMAT.LDN developed the full visual identity and motion toolkit for the series, creating a flexible screen-led system that could adapt across multiple Netflix titles while still feeling part of one consistent format. Each episode was built around the key art of the featured show, with artwork adapted, extended, animated and treated to create a more dynamic visual environment for remote press content.

The work included animated title treatments, key art adaptations, character graphics, question interstitials and supporting motion assets. Each package needed to feel specific to the featured title, while still sitting inside the wider A Close Encounter identity. This meant balancing the tone, palette and visual language of each Netflix show with a consistent branded framework for the series.

Created at a time when most entertainment publicity had shifted to remote production, the project helped turn virtual cast interviews into something more polished, cohesive and visually engaging. Rather than simply placing contributors into a generic video call format, the series gave each episode a designed environment, using motion, artwork and editorial graphics to bring more atmosphere, structure and personality to the screen.

Across the series, A Close Encounter became a flexible format for Netflix press content: part interview package, part digital junket asset, and part motion-led brand system. It was designed to support remote production while still giving each title a strong visual presence, helping bridge the gap between traditional press junkets and the new screen-first formats that emerged during the pandemic.
