Diary of a Somebody

Making Productions / Seven Dials Playhouse

FORMAT.LDN was invited by Making Productions to create the launch artwork for the inaugural season of Seven Dials Playhouse. Developed in close collaboration with their team, the creative drew inspiration from the distinctive collage work of Joe Orton and Kenneth Halliwell, using that visual language as the basis for a bold and characterful campaign identity.

The poster design embraced the cut-and-paste energy of their work, combining layered imagery, typography and composition into something vibrant, theatrical and immediately recognisable. The aim was not simply to reference that aesthetic, but to reinterpret it in a way that felt fresh, graphic and fully aligned with the spirit of the playhouse.

The project extended beyond the key art into motion and campaign rollout. We animated the design for screen-based use, creating eye-catching visuals for advertising and promotional content, and developed a wider suite of supporting assets to ensure the identity translated consistently across formats.

Alongside the campaign work, we also designed the programme for the production, carrying the same collage-led approach into print. This added a more tactile, crafted quality to the wider visual language, helping create a cohesive identity across both physical and digital touchpoints.

The result was a launch campaign with a strong sense of personality — expressive, visually rich and rooted in a clear theatrical point of view.
