Royal Opera House BAFTA Artwork
BAFTA / Royal Opera House
FORMAT.LDN developed this BAFTA mask artwork from an earlier motion project, before adapting it into a large-scale installation for the windows of the Royal Opera House ahead of the 2013 EE BAFTA Film Awards.
What began as a screen-based visual was reworked and expanded into a highly detailed static piece built from more than one million particles, designed to hold its impact at architectural scale. The challenge was to retain the clarity and elegance of the original mask while transforming it into something immersive enough to live within the fabric of the building itself.
Backlit on the night of the awards, the installation created a striking presence overlooking the red carpet, turning the artwork into a luminous part of the event environment and extending the BAFTA identity beyond screen and into the space itself.
